Assalam 'alaykum

This is an incredible piece, jazakAllah khayr for writing it! I have studied the same historical trend from the catholic church to post modernism and atheism with one of my teachers, but I feel I don't have enough knowledge on these topics, as our discussions on these topics were only for a couple months. Do you have any additional reading materials that you recommend on these topics? Maybe more specifically about how Islamic societies were corrupted by these european solutions?

JazakAllahu khayr brother!

Albert Hourani’s “Arabic Thought in the Liberal Age” is a good starting point to look at the historical transmission of European thought into the Muslim world (Egypt and the Levant specifically).

While i similiarly struggle to find authentic sources to delve into islamic studies it was very essential for me to read this. May I ask what and how did you finally find a place where your thirst for ilm was rightfully quenched?

Asslamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu. Thank you for sharing this, I am in agreement with you. There is now a whole generation of Muslims that give precedence to self-styled scholars on YouTube and TikTok, who lack the characteristics and outlook of the Islamic scholarly tradition. Allah Ta'alah has preserved and safeguardes the religion through the scholarly chains and lineages. To turn away from them is to turn your back on an ocean and instead satisfy yourself with a muddy puddle instead.

The multitude of ahadith emphasising the importance of scholars, seeking knowledge, acting upon it accordingly and taking an initiative to learn, further supports this. It’s intresting to note that the first piece of revelation revealed on the cave of hiraa was “iqraa” meaning to READ. There is a deeply intellectual aspect necessitated for a sincere obedience, otherwise the heart is not active (which is a major component for the acceptance of deeds). Thank you for a comprehensive analysis.
